I wrote about 1Password manager in 2013 and the advice still holds. Stop, do not pass go, sign up for 1Password!! I use it for everything I want to record, protect, and share as needed.
Think Beyond Passwords! Here’s how I use the extended features to be even more helpful:
Share Vital Information
- I created a vault of information I share with my mom – where to find my bank accounts, mortgage, life insurance and more if something happened to me. Such peace of mind!
- I created a vault of passwords I share with my kids, for example our Spotify family subscription, their student IDs, any school logins and the like.
- I recorded all family devices with serial number, date purchased, and any PIN codes or passwords needed to access that device.
- I record all home and vehicle related information like alarm codes, utilities, internet provider, VIN numbers, etc. and share these records in my mom’s Vault as well. Again, information your Executor will need to handle your estate.
Plan for Emergencies
- I tagged every credit card, health insurance ID, driver’s license, etc. with “wallet” – so if I lose my wallet or it’s stolen I can quickly pull a list of items I need to cancel immediately
- I tagged every subscription on auto-pay with the payment method it’s tied to (“x0123” or “Venmo”) – so when the card expires or I lose my wallet (see above) – I can quickly pull a list of services that need payment information updated.
